Ukulele University 101 Western Illinois Museum The Western Illinois Museum will host the popular Ukulele University 101 on Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. The workshop is an introductory instructional workshop for beginner and is designed for those who have no experience with the ukulele. The two hour course, taught by Mike McGowan, will introduce and explore the basics: tuning, chords, strumming techniques, phrasing and songs. Since 2009, Ukulele Macomb has been teaching all ages to play the ukulele with workshops and two weekly jam sessions. Ukulele Macomb has become a popular musical group in the area with many of its members learning to play the ukulele in this workshop. The group has created a community that supports all levels of skill and encourages people to enjoy playing music together. They provide entertainment to the community performing for events, organizations and area assisted living centers. The workshop fee is $10 and supports the Western Illinois Museum.
